Mug Quality issues - anyone else noticed a decline?

Just got my latest batch from Xpres, smooth on the inside so i don't expect any staining issues, printed perfectly as always.

Thats good news!

Although you have to remember that IF this really is happening Xpres could still be holding old stock and that the question "do you guarantee the inside of your mugs is free from coating overspray?" really does need to be asked each time an order is placed - at least until this debarcle has been sorted out.

No reason for ALL factories throughout the World to switch. It would be more localised to individual factories I would have thought.

We've got a pallet of 2000 odd coming into our warehouse from Thailand today, so will be checking them for this.

Presumably Listawood mugs should be safe as they coat their own don't they?
I've been using Orca coated mugs from subliblanks recently (got them the beginning of last month) no over spray on the inside.
Would be nice if some of the suppliers who frequent this forum could chime in on this thread.

P.S. If there's a list being made of suppliers selling over sprayed mugs I'd appreciate a pm with that list

Edit: Also wouldn't there be a health and safety issue or something with them being sprayed on the inside? I thought there was some issue with using plates to eat off which is why they are sold as decorative.

Having just come back from southern Florida then I was surprised in that every single mug I found in all gift shops and stores were Orca coated. They were all a brilliant vibrant colour from top to bottom, probably still printed in China, but got me thinking that maybe we might look into these rather than RN. They seemed perfect inside and out. Galerion, have you found Orca a suitable coating? Olly.

I'm using 11oz mugs so that limits my choice of suppliers, I switched to Orca because getting a supply of them is more reliable than 11oz RN from BMS.
Not found any problems with the coating and they are a little bit lighter than RN which means if you are packing 4 together plus coasters you'll be under the 2kg limit for 2nd class.
The only thing with them is that they tend to have a slight taper which means I have to use extra heat when using my mini 3d press, still get the odd duff one doing this though and RN ones sometimes also had this problem.
Only 2 other well known suppliers do different 11oz mugs as far as I'm aware:
Coralgraph who's mugs came out of the 3d machine perfect nearly every time but they would show ware near the rim and base far quicker than RN and Orca, I would also have to discard a fair few because of pin holes in the coating.
Longforte mugs have a bad coating, it fades and flakes far to quickly when compared to the others and I don't like the join of the handle either.

So yeah that's where I'm at with mugs atm been thinking about switching to 10oz for more choice of suppliers but that means changing all my designs to fit a smaller template.
May see if I can find something better than the green wraps for the 3d machines but nothing I've seen so far looks like it would do a better job.

No problems to report on the mugs we got in today, only had a few boxes open -haven't inspected all 2160 mugs obviously, but so far so good.
