Epson xp 212

I have been told I can use this for sub printing, comes with the empty carts so just need to get the inks for it, anyone ever used the Epson xp212 for sub prints or is it better with a ricoh printer which, reading on the forums, quite a number of people are using?

I have seen this ricoh which is mentioned a lot on here using gel inks, do I still need to dump the onboard inks for sub inks or is the gel stuff more or less the same?
