which printer?

hi everyone. I haven't been on here for quite a long time and am now thinking of getting back into my printing.

My question is - I have a sublimation printer and everything else but I have a lot of transfer printable items and i do still get phonecalls asking for cheap stag doo photo t shirts etc. What printer do I need to do basic photo printing onto t shirts? I was thinking an inkjet but might be completly wrong.

Inkjet or toner . Toner there are papers for both.

Hi any suggestions on which printer is a decent one but not too expensive? I have an epson printer - would that be ok?

Depends...

If you only want to do white t-shirts then I would recommend something like an OKI 301. Less than £100 and third party toner available on ebay for peanuts. Then use TMT laser transfer paper.

But if you want to do coloured garments you will need something like an OKI White printer at £2k. There is a Sun Angel system which is very cheap to start but as you progress and the business grows it ends up a lot more expensive, it also uses a cheap OKI engine which I have heard have reliability problems. Next step up would be a Roland print and cut at 5k. However that is a bit too much for just garments.

Personally I would steer clear of the cheaper ink jet transfers.

You also may want to consider not getting a printer, but instead looking at vinyl and a cutter. This will get you into the market on white and colours. The only thing you will not be able to do is photographic pictures.

You could always find someone on here to sub out the making of the transfers to and then apply them yourself.
