Re: Fading of blacks on mugs and phone covers

Post by jimmailer »

Hi All, I am primarily a photographer with a studio and a lot of school work. I have just recently bought a mug press and £D Vacuum Hot Press as in here http://shop.photomart.co.uk/3d-sublimat ... hines.html along with a Richoh SG3110DN printer. I cannot seem to get true images on my mugs or phone covers especially with the blacks. They appear faded or speckly white rather than pure black. The people I bought the presses from also supplied me with paper called "Sublimugs" as in here http://shop.photomart.co.uk/sublimugs-s ... paper.html and sublimugs ink http://shop.photomart.co.uk/sublimugs-5 ... 100dn.html . I have a funny feeling that it could be the paper I am using is not good enough quality or indeed the inks. I have tried increasing the cooking time and temperature but doesn't really help. this company also supplied me with their own printing profile but I prefer the other ones that was sent with the RIP software. Can anybody give me any pointers and possible remedies. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am starting to get orders in. regards Jim

Fading blacks normally suggests not enough time and/our heat in my limited experience. What are the other colours like?

thank you for your quick reply. The other colours are not to bad to be honest. It just seems to be blacks and dark blues. The suggested time is 3 mins but I have even pushed it to up to 7 mins and still not getting a satisfactory result. That's why I was wondering if the paper I was using was not that great and if better paper would make a difference

It could be the paper, make sure your printing on the coated side. I use xpres normally but half way through a sample pack of F-35 Jet Stream which is proving to be just as good a paper. I found experimenting is all part of the learning curve, everyone will have their own set variables due to different set ups and working conditions. Good luck.

I suspect you need much longer if you are using green wraps in that red oven thing like 10 or 11 minutes that's assuming the temperature is correct.

Thank you we-print . That's exactly what the instructions say but as you said earlier it sounded as though I required more time but I have even tried it at 7 mins at still the same result. That's where I reckon it must be either paper or ink
