Recommended printers

So further to my post the other day regarding my son and his sg2100n, the eBay seller has agreed to issue a refund . So my son is now looking at other printers. So please could you recommend some so I can point him in the right direction.

Hi Dawn my advice would be to buy the SawGrass Virtuso 400 complete with the Sublimation inks or the Ricoh sg3100 also complete with the sublimation inks. The SawGrass Virtuoso is the replacement for the Ricoh but both good printers for Sublitmation.

The easiest way and a way that produces good quality is as Kath suggested, the sawgrass Virtuso 400 or 800 would be my suggestion. Hassle free, reliable.

Hi Dawn. Is your son wanting to start up a business or do this as a hobby? The Ricoh printer most of us use is SG3110dn which is selling on Amazon Warehouse deals for £62!

You will then need sublimation ink and two choices: Either buy the proper pro stuff from a supplier and pay +£200 or use "compatible" inks for a quarter of the price. I would definitely recommend going the route of sourcing your own inks for business if you want to get into knowing how everything works and why etc, if you want something that "just works" then go the expensive Sawgrass route, if you want better profit margins and better quality images then there are better printers and ink choices out there.

Thanks for the replies. I seem to be doing most of the reading /looking for him at the moment haha
I have seen Epsom printers mentioned on other sites and inktec ink. Are these any good?
And pisquee would you like to share better ink choices? Lol

Inktec are a professional/industrial ink, most Sawgrass inks are sold by their "consumer department" - (they just sold Sawgrass Industrial to another company)
A good Epson inkjet designed for printing photography/artworks is going to be better than the Ricoh printers, which are designed as office printers.
This is dependant on your targe market, types of designs/work you'll be printing etc

yes...., and no!
any epson inkjet will technically 'work'
but, you really want one designed for photo printing, and not just a cheapy home one.
more than the standard cmyk 4 inks is helpful, but you have two more bottles of ink to buy to get set up, but 100ml of ink should only be about £10-£20
you'll need an ICC making, search on here for custom icc profile, and then get in touch with paul.
