Re: Has he bought a dud?

My son has gone out and bought this
http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/RICOH-Aficio-SG ... nav=SEARCH
It arrived, all set up but when he printed a photo ready to be put on to a metal phone case insert the picture came out absolutely rubbish, the quality wasn't very good and it was very dark including some lines across it.
After reading lots of posts I have got the impression that this printer is no good for sublimation printing. Am I right?

You'll need an ICC profile for colour correction. I assume the ebay seller didn't supply one, so talk to paul on here to get one made.
for the lines in the print, run the head alignment and head cleaning programmes.

Thank you pisquee. No the supplier didn't supply one.
He really needs to think things through before he jumps in at the deep end.

My concern is that this printer has never been successfully tested for use with sublimation. Another concern is that we've never seen these cheaper inks work in the long run without throwingvup problems. I'd be interested to see how you get on once you have a profile. I know Paul is extremely busy right now so this may take a while.

Take a look at our premium membership, as well as some other great discounts you'll also get money off the profile with Paul :-)
