Re: Epson Workforce WF3010 Question

Post by Scary »

Hi everyone
I'm quite new to this so please forgive me if this is a stupid question!
We've just bought a heat press and Epson Workforce WF3010 printer, we done a little experiment the other day and the image doesn't transfer. I know we have the right paper and consumables and from reading a few posts on here I think I may have the wrong ink (I just used what came with the printer which I think may be dye ink) I've had a search for sublimination ink and I can't find any specific ones, all I've found is the refillable tank and little bottles to refill it, does anyone know, is this what I need?
Thanks!

Hi

If you have put normal printing ink in the printer you will need to flush this out before putting dye sublimation ink in as it won't work. You will also need a printer profile creating for the colours to come out correctly.
The easiest solution if you are getting into dye sublimation is to head over to the Sawgrass website and purchase the equipment they recommend as they provide the software and profiles to get you up and running with the minimum of fuss.
Alternatively you will need to trawl these forums and get an understanding of the Dye sub process and what's required to have your own setup.

Thanks so much! I've been in touch with them today and they've told me the printer isn't compatible (guess I should have joined here first!! ha!) They've pointed me in the direction of some so I'll get a new one.

Thanks for your help :)

The 3010 is a nice printer in some ways - we have one for general printing, not sublimation work. As an Epson inkjet printer, it is just as compatible with sublimation inks as any other Epson inkjet. As mentioned, you just need some refillable cartridges, some sublimation ink, and an ICC profile creating. Or, you can take the more expensive, but easier route, and buy a new printer and Sawgrass inks. Depends on what you want and how your brain is wired as to which route you find more appealing.

thank you, I'm not sure about ICC profiles etc.. so was looking for a more 'off the shelf' type thing that I could get started with quickly

If you're looking at the Ricoh route which I agree is a good idea, take a look at the newer version of the 3110 as the printer and inkset have been improved and rebadged so Sawgrass now cover the full warranty directly.
