Website Meta Description
Re: Website Meta Description
Hi,
I have updated all of my website meta descriptions for my website however when i search for my website using google i don't see the description under the website heading.
I have attached an image to better explain.
All of the grey text should be the text that sells my website so to speak yet i cannot get this to show.. Does anyone know where i'm going wrong?
I'm using Opencart by the way
Thanks in advance
Enzo

Re: Website Meta Description
It usually takes google a while to index these things, so if you've only just made the changes I'd give it a little while. also, if you haven't already done it, submit a sitemap to google using webmaster tools.

Also Google doesn't always take your description if it thinks it can do better....... There are plenty of articles about google's methods, search with "meta description not showing".
If you put site:printosaurus.co.uk into google it will show you all your pages with their descriptions. You can then check which ones google is changing, though I don't remember if it shows the latest data or data from the cached copy.

Re: Website Meta Description
The site description is taken from all the information above the header on your site. If you could move the currency/login module/div down and place a site description first on your site or at least directly after the header image this would show on google. Site descriptions are taken from the wording on the site not the metadata "description". Google shows what it encounters first when spidering the site
Therefore it shows the text in the following html:
A general rule of thumb for opencart is;
Header image
Title (h1) [short title]
Short description [trying not to use stop words like and/or/,/. This is repeated on web page elsewhere as keywords and in metadata as description and keywords]
The rest of your site.
Therefore it shows the text in the following html:
And so on.
A general rule of thumb for opencart is;
Header image
Title (h1) [short title]
Short description [trying not to use stop words like and/or/,/. This is repeated on web page elsewhere as keywords and in metadata as description and keywords]
The rest of your site.
The real secret is to wisdom is to listen to the wise and follow their advice

Jeez! I wish I had a better understanding of this sort of thing!
We badly need some SEO (I think)
Is there a noddy's guide that even a complete novice will understand?

Re: Website Meta Description
our google presence for our home page uses our meta description or og:description tag which is designed to be eye-catching in the results, there's various tricks and tips you can use to get good google presence, but there's no "this is the guaranteed way to do it" I assure you our site is far from using daviddeer's "rule of thumb" above.
The only sure way to get a good google presence is hard work, good content and patience, avoid the quick tricks, short cuts and hacks as you may get good results short term you'll get kicked to the curb the next google update and even black-listed.

Hi,
your website is expired. But if someone have the same question, here can be an interesting info.
Like spongerobinson says, Google has to crawl your page in order to update it. If you want to know the last time when Google crawled your website do this : Go to google.co.uk, next copy and past the URL of your page (index page if you want to check if Google crawled this page), after that click on the down arrow (on the right to your website title) and click on "cache". A new page is loaded and on the top of this page you can see (for example): "affichée le 26 juin 2015 01:54:13 GMT". I'm french so it wrote in french but in english it could be something like this : "This is the page when we crawled it the 26th June 2015 at 01:05:13 GMT".
If you modified your meta description before this date, you have to know that a meta description has to be inside the . And the code is :
--> I'm sorry, I don't understand why but I can't publish HTML code.
Bye
