I've got some extra large cartridges for the above and intend to use it with pigment ink. I fell at the first fence as after 2.5 hours I still have not managed to get rid of the "cover is open" message. I have the little black widget that is supposed to slide in and "fool" the door sensor but cannot, for the life of me, make it work!!!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If its a bent plastic bit of plastic it slides in where the cartridge flap is.

I can't really offer any great advice, but all I know is I found those plastic bits to fool the sensor, an absolute nightmare to get right! Plus, after a while, I snapped mine and lost half of it in the depths of the printer. I currently use the other half of the plastic bit and a cardboard wedge, which works pretty well!

That's precisely what I spent 2.5 hours doing! It slid in and out but at no time did it trigger the sensor.

It was nice to learn that it's not just me ! I am frightened of breaking the plastic too.

I suppose I have no option bet to keep poking around with the black widget. In City Ink's video he say theres a knack to it. I'll have to try to acquire that knack!

Well, after another hour I saw a video that recommends removing the paper tray first. I did this and was able to resolve the problem.

I now need to flush out the old Brother ink before I load up the sub ink. Or do I? I've got spare refillable cartridges and some fluid, but wonder how far I need go with this. I don't want to fill the waste tank before I start!

I would put sub ink in and do prints/cleans until print colour starts to dull. Then do test print onto something that's waste until print quality is acceptable. As for waste tank, its a sponge that holds loads and can be re-set when it gives warning.

I did what you said raydavies.
I put some cleaning fluid in the refills.
printed about 10 CMYK pages.
removed and replaced the cleaning cartridges with sublimation ones.
head clean again.
print cmyk image until image show up on the paper.

this is best way so far as you will be able to notice when ink starts flowing again.
waste ink tank wont fill up to quick, so not need to worry about that. you will be doing only couple of cleans so this is not a problem.

Thanks Paul, that's more or less what I expected. I was hoping to avoid all the flushing!

Well, so far I have printed 25 plain paper prints of a photo taken in my garden with no reduction of print quality! I have also printed the same pic on photo paper and it produced a perfect picture!! This was all done with the ink cartridges sitting on my desk and the printer using cartridges containing flushing fluid.

I can only assume the residual ink is just being diluted but am staggered at the high quality of print coming out!

At this rate when I put in the Sblimation ink, I won't know when it's coming through.
