Cooling Mugs

Hi Everyone!

I have recently started making mugs and I was wondering how you all go about leaving them to cool? I have been after a rack of some sort so I can stack them, however I have been unable to find one which will work for me.

I have seen a few larger, tiered cake cooling racks, however the gap between the racks isn't big enough (needs to be at least 10cm) Therefore I was hoping for some hints or tips on the kind of racks you use!

I am not happy with using water as I have heard a lot about the glaze cracking on the mugs.

i`ve always dunked in luke warm water never had a problem

Better that you detect a faulty mug than let it break in the hands of a punter who will then take action against you.

Mugs are designed to withstand rapid temperature change... at least the one's you intend to sell should be.

I use some metal shelving type units I got from Ikea, you can get tow sizes, I got the biger ones and they work a treat.

I just leave mine to cool naturally on top of an old roof tiles or terracotta tiles. I only do small amounts
though at the moment.

Up to now I have let them cool naturally. But like Quinsfan I have only done small runs.
