Re: epson xp-225

hello guys (this is my first "help me" thread)

ive recently sourced equipment to start sublimating cups and tshirts now ive gone about it wrong really buying before doing any research so here i am
my printer is an epson xp-225 and has been opened up and carts filled with (admin removed) ink.

printer excepted the ink with little fuss but shows on pc as not genuine and ive performed the nozzle check and all seems good
the problem im having is there are lines ever so faint in a horizontal fasion about 1cm apart
i have bought some images that are already to size and seem like good quality pics (just to test printer)

now i just tried to sublimate the image to cup and the lines are present on the cup.
my first thought was the printer is at fault but i have no idea what this could be?

could i need a icc profile or something?
the sublimation paper i am using isnt the cheapest or the most expensive but im open to buying better paper and inks if this would help?
im begining to think this printer is junk.....

cheers

I've had to remove the brand name of the inks you're using as they aren't allowed under Sawgrass patents. Sawgrass hold patents that in a nutshell mean you can only use their ink in a small format printer. These patents are open for debate which we won't get into here (it wont help you) but needless to say we don't want you getting into any bother ;-)

The Epson you have chosen isn't a supported printer. This doesn't mean it won't work for sublimation but you'll find a number of supported (tested) printers that would make your start up a lot less painful. You could persevere with this printer, getting a custom icc would be essential but you might be throwing good money away

kendog, have you tried aligning the printheads in the printer maintenance program, easy to do and usually the cause of banding.

also, you may need to prime the refill carts and run some cleaning cycles on the printer to get things going properly.
As the name of the inks you've bought has been removed I have no way of knowing if they are good or junk, so can't advise on that unfortunately.

you shouldn't need to run cleaning cycles if you're using the printer often, and have good inks.
you will need to run them when you start with new refill carts to get things going along with priming them with a syringe. see youtube.
for sublimation icc profiles, moderator Paul on this forum is the guy to go to - I can't recommend him enough!
his website is here: http://www.frames4photoshop.info/custom ... ation.html
he'll be able to tell if you're inks are good or not too!

You can get 10% off Pauls products and some other great supplier discounts with our Premium Membership (£10 per year) The inks mentioned shouldn't cause you any problems, we just can't advertise that you're using them :-)
