Where do I get the best heat sub inks for this new Epson printer L1300, hopefully a supplier in the UK? Have never done mug printing before but have just acquired a 12 mug vacuum 3D heat printer and want to start this new hobby in my golden years, taking a big plunge...
best wishes,
Helen

L1300 isn't a supported printer so I'm afraid we can't offer any support on the forum. You could always source inks/profile yourself but as Sawgrass have patents on the use of sublimation ink in small format printers we aren't able to advise or support you on this.

But, they don't. They just say they do.
The main patent they claimed to be applicable (but wasn't) expired September last year.

Users should read the patents and court notes from previous legal battles, (none of which Sawgrass won) which are published on the internet for all to download, and make their own mind up as to what the truth of the situation is, and then decide which ink manufacturer's business you want to support.

I've read similar comment to Justin's previously and don't understand why alternative ink manufacturers to SG can't be discussed, I can understand a patent can be used to prevent the copying of an idea or product but didn't think a patent could prevent the freedom of speech on the subject? How does that work? Has the forum ever had action threatened by SG? I'm new to all this of course so be gentle :)

I don't allow these discussions for a number of reasons. Primarily it's to protect the forum members. In theory the patent owner could chase any individual proved to be using third party inks and take action against them. Also, these discussions tend to point to resellers of 'other' inks and, whilst this isn't necessarily a problem, if said reseller was found to be selling these inks for small format printer inks again they'd be in trouble.

I aint me that makes the rules I just have to try and protect both you and the forum. Unfortunately we live in a world where some folk jump on these conversations and make an issue for us ;-)

I wondered when a sublimation ink was not a patented sublimation ink!

Maybe an anonymous poll might be in order? Could we set that up Justin? It'd be interesting to see some figures, out of curiosity.

I am interested in this problem as I was asking the question as have just acquired a new L1300 A3 Epson printer and need inks for it and do not want to buy anything that will clog up the machine and this was the only forum that I could find to discuss the problem, apart from one on Ricoh that only seems to relate to their products . From Justin's rather hard negatives I see that I am in the wrong place. Can anyone point me in the direction of the users of Epson L1300 sublimation or a forum where dyes can be discussed...alas, alas. As a beginner in heat sublimation mug printing I don't want to mess up expensive equipment.

Not sure what you mean by hard negatives? I'm saying this to protect you, nothing else. I'm not sure why you'd buy this new printer as a new user when supported options are available. Cost is the usual reason but going down this route may well end up costing you more. I don't really think referring you to another forum is helpful or particularly professional. The only other place you might get heard would be the T-shirt forum but please be careful.
