I Know we've discussed these before some time ago so, rather than drag up an old thread....I've read through old threads (and taken my own advice in using the search box!) but can't find the specific answers I need.

Looking to put SSL onto my OpenCart site, just wondering what I need to do this, would a basic certificate be enough? I'm assuming a single domain protection would be fine, my site is www.mysite.com/store so by protecting www.mysite.com would that cover everything thereafter?

Options I've looked at so far:

Just found out my host company can supply SSL Certificates, not cheap, nor is the hosting! but everything is first class with these guys so taking a closer look. £65 for instant SSL through to £179 for all singing and dancing SSL.

The adding it to open cart is very simple using the options

I use geotrust which is cheap enough for encryption /server verification but I don't have company verification, not sure it would add much more customer trust (most just want to see a padlock but don't know why).

Installing an SSL can be a pain if your not sure what your doing or impossible if you don't have the right type of hosting so check with your server to make sure you can before you pay any money, my server runs plesk which has actually made it much easier to see upmssl than it was a few years ago but you still need your certificate, the issuers certificate and intermediate certificates to get it to work right.

Just looking at the prices you've been quoted for SSL certificate - I got mine free.

I use hostnine "shared-Enterprise" package at $8.95 p/m which is about £5.50 and it comes with SSL (You have to request SSL set-up).

I have used them for years (in a previous business) and never had any issues.

I couldn't comment on different types of SSL as I don't have clue so this may or may not be useful to you.

You get a free domain name for that as well (if you want it).

got our SSL CERT through our web host justin - they even installed it and made sure everything was working ok....that was/is an opencart site.
most web hosts can get SSL's cheaper than joe blogs as most get a deal on them, where as your normal punter cant
