Just won an Epson Stylus pro 4000 - will collect it on Tuesday.

I have an ink supplier already but need refillable carts - looking for advice, I have found some overseas suppliers for about £70 - £80.

Here's One of them.

ANd if this machine doesnt have One I will be looking for a spindle too, to hold rolls of paper.

I intend to use this machine for Canvass.

So, finally I have a 'Large Format' Printer :) yay - but obviously will need advice on every aspect as this is new to me.

Where I am going to install this is another concern but I realise only I can work that out.

Hi Nik

Are you sure this is a solvent printer?

I was under the impression that Epson did not make solvent printers and stuck to Aqueous and Ultrachrome inks. I could be very wrong there so do not quote me but I think you need to check. If what I am thinking is right you will probably still be able to use it but I am not sure on the durability under certain weather conditions (i.e. rain) for things like banners.

Actually correction, I think they have just started with the 6000 dye sub thingy to make them but the 4000 does not ring a bell with me....

I have since been told it's NOT a solvent printer, so going to use it for Canvas - and work out what else I can use it for.
I did get it for a good price but need to drive for about 7 hours this week in order to collect it.

Its a big thing, 845 wide by 1105mm deep with the tray extended - may have to build another bench just for this.

'Simple Green' - Does anyone know that the UK equivalent is of that ? or can I use 'Thinners' :)

I got this for a good price as One of the colours is empty and the heads must be blocked (the chap says) - I am confident I can clean the head but want to try to do it inside the machine first before I take it out and try to clean it the way I used to clean Epson heads in my days of turning around 'Customer Return' Epsons.

lol, Plonker - I don't care what it takes I will make this work for me :)

These are obviously well made which is a Plus in my book.

VERY well made!
you'll want some printer cleaning fluid/flush to try and get it running again if it's blocked- as your ink supplier for this.
Likely you'll need a new set of dampers, may as well replace the set even if only one is gone, they're not expensive, even if getting them in UK, I think £20 on ebay for a set.
I would get two sets of the refill carts in, and fill one set with the cleaning fluid, and in the service menues there's INIT FILL which will purge all the current ink (if it isn't too clogged to move) and refill with what's in the cart bay - in this case cleaning fluid, which will be a good start to try and get it going again, and an ideal to do anyways if flushing one ink to refill with new.
Put sublimation inks in it, and do polyester canvas with sublimation.

Jeez!.. Looks like it was made like a tank!

They are built like tanks!
The only warning I would give on these, is as soon as you get them, you're not gonna want to go back to home/office level printers, and you'll soon be dreaming of trading it in for the next size up, or getting another one so you have one for pigment/art printing, and another for sublimation.

This is my worry - I like everything to match so will probably want more for different applications.

I had to have 2x Ricoh for that reason.. lol.

So, tomorrow at this time I may be standing next to this machine :)

Bought some Refillable carts from HK last night, £71 delivered and I am told this will probably have a spindle already.
