The printer will be getting a lot of use soon so there should be no problems with head clogs. If things quieten down I may decide to let the printer auto clean when needed. To achieve this do I:

A: leave it on by switching off the front panel and leaving the mains lead switched on

B: leave it on by not switching off the front panel and allowing it to go to sleep.

I leave mine on and powered up all the time, others turn them off for MONTHS at a time and there do not seem to be problems either way.

Thing with Ricoh's is the print head has a MUCH higher pressure which seems to keep them clear.

General consensus seems to be that the thing NOT to do is turn it off every night - that said there are people here who do just that!

Thanks but I am still none the wiser as to the definition of "ON" with regard to the front panel switch vs wall socket.

Just leave it on.

I have 2x of them and they are both protected by a UPS as if you have a power cut they 'Purge' and you waste a lot of expensive ink.. Happened to me twice.

I turn off the Sub one when I am going to be away for more than a few hours but I would leave it on if you have a stable mains supply (let it sleep) - we are in the countryside so our power (over head cables) is not so reliable.

Thanks, touch wood our supply up here is very good but any sign of lightning and everything gets shut down and disconnected. Phone lines still on poles, used to make a lot of money replacing modems in the bad old days.

Leave it plugged in, switched on at the wall and switched on at the printer itself and it will happily go to sleep, doesn't need to be plugged in to alive usb port or network.

.. As Arthur said.

Plug it in, turn it on and leave it (it will sleep - Blue Light On) - and it doesn't need to be connected to anything to run its auto cleaning routine.

I can understand your concern, but even with my two 'Purges' I am still on my first set of inks - they truly DO last a long time.
