Epson 1500w

Can someone please tell me if the Epson Stylus Photo 1500W is a good printer for sublimation. Just getting into it after retirement and could use some help. Thanks form Alaska Jim

Well I use one and have no complaints about it, I also use a 1400 as well!

I'm liking my 1500w, been using it for about a month now, no problems so far, works very well. Only issue I had was initially the CIS system took some fiddling about with to get working properly, had no light magenta coming through, but it was just down to an air lock in the system, once sorted it's been good as gold ever since. The thing with Epsons is to be aware they can suffer head blockages if not used on a regular basis, much more so than the Ricoh's. If we're not using it we do do a nozzle check every couple of days just to ensure ink doesn't dry on the head. So far we have not had any blocked nozzles.

Great printer, fitted mine with a CIS and had no problems...other than ordering CIS for a 1400 which 'can' be fitted

print quality being 6 colour is excellent.

Only slight issue I ever had was a paper feed problem where the paper was catching at the edges.

I made the move over to Ricoh and overall I do prefer them but the 1500 was a slightly better print on gradients and skin tones having the extra colours.

@justin - the ricoh sg3110 printers, must you use the sulijet sub inks or what ever they are called ? or can one use other sub inks with refillable carts, the same as we do with the brother and epson printers now ??

Refil carts are available for some Ricohs, I did once get some refil carts to test but results weren't very good. TBH for the number of prints you get form even the standard size carts I really don't think it's worth all the hassle...just my opinion

hi.could that not be down to the ink you were using at the time rather than anything to do with the carts ?
and....
buying these with the sub inks that come with them is fine if you just starting out, less hassle - but for likes of us, and others, who import our own inks, can they still be used with these little printers ok ? thats what i really want to know

In theory you can put other subli inks into these printers but I just can't see any good reason why you'd want to, working out a cost per print and you're saving pennies which shouldn't be necessary if you're doing this as anything more than a hobby. If it's simply for the challenge by all means have a go

i think i got enough of those just now justin - dont need any more challenges bud :frown:
cant discuss third party inks here as per rules ect, but importing sub inks in bulk ( min 1- 5ltr bottles of ea colour ) as we do just now, MUST work out way cheaper than buying the smaller pre-filled carts ??? ...and def lol at hobby - thinks its way past that one!

That was my point, I'm sure you have better things to do! Lol. In fact I know you do. Yes, it would work out cheaper but how much would you save on each print? What happens if the printer fails and isn't covered under warranty? Maybe going a bit off topic here
