Re: Ricoh 3110DN and Gold Film - What printer settings?

Hi all,

My first post in here but I'm sure there'll be many more :)

I am new to sublimation (come from pad printing background) but have researched as much as possible and after speaking with Sawgrass tech support I thought this may be a question for here instead.

I have a Ricoh 3110dn and am printing onto Gold film (Policrom/PoliJet 180Mic).

I am using the ICC profile from Sawgrass but there is no option for film. It's currently set on Truepix but I'm not convinced this is the right way to go.

Does anybody here already print onto film using this printer?
If so can I ask what setup you're using?

Thanks in advance,
John.

The ICC profile is more for compensating for the colours on the final printed product. So picking the most appropriate one for the final product you are printing would be where to start.
Are you already doing this, and not satisfied with the results?

Hi pisquee,

Thanks for your input.

I've literally just started and the quality is not great (I didn't expect it to be right off the bat). I can produce varying results by altering times/temperatures, but I wanted to be sure I was printing correctly before I wasted too much time on the process.

I figured if others had the same or similar setup as me that would be a great place to start.

I thought you needed less heat with the vacuum presses, and also for Ricoh inks ...
Looking at your chart, the only unblotchey print is at 180 degrees, but it has lots of residue left on the film, so I would use that for the starting point, of trying that temp with more time to start with.

Thanks Pisquee,

I'll do that. I take it you believe the focus should be on the sublimation rather than the printing process at this stage?

Yeah, it looks more to be problems with the actual pressing stage, rather than printing the transfers.

Just about to start having a go with the gold film over the coming weeks. i didn't think it went through the Ricoh machines due to the film not being picked up on a sensor or something? Could well have that wrong though, especially as you're printing it! lol.

I thought it was the clear film that didn't get 'seen' by the printers, but the gold film was OK, as it could be seen by the printer?
