Hi all.

My name is Steve and I live in Preston Lancs. Took voluntary redundancy from Preston College recently where I worked as a Painting & decorating tutor for the last 10 years and now looking forward to working from home.
I'm on with converting my garage into a workshop at the mo.
I have been producing plaques and signs made from hand painted wood up until recently. I used a Silhouette Cameo plotter to cut vinyl for the letters etc but it doesn't like cutting the text too small so I'm thinking of getting into sub printing so that I can do the signs onto metal instead. I will be needing lots of advice on best buys, techniques etc over the next few months. Hoping you guys can help. This looks like a really interesting site where everyone seems to help each other.
Cheers !

Hi Steve,

A Hearty Welcome from me too. You will find that the members here have a wide knowledge of this industry - even today I was surprised by a couple of members ability to produce things I had no idea any of us were capable of.

You should find all you need from this One forum.

Hi Steve,

One thing you might want to bear in mind is that dye sub inks aren't very UV stable so aren't the best things for outdoor signs, especially if they're going to be in direct sunlight.

Yes I heard that recently. I am considering doing a range of wooden plaques as well which will be varnished if they are to be used outdoors. Thanks for the info!
