I must be going mad as I could do this a couple of days ago but now I cant !
Just need to get rid of the white bit, turn it transparent to get an image into it - there must be a simple explanation as nobody would make Mug templates hard to edit - would they?

Paul fixed a couple for me yesterday but I need to do this myself - any pointers? I remember using Marquee, selecting an area and then pasting the image in but these irregular shapes are a different story

I did it the other day - I have the image here, just cant do it now for some reason. Frustrating.

Did you use the magic wand tool by any chance? Guessing you're on Photoshop?

Hi Nik
Assuming you are using photoshop I have emailed you the file and below is what I did and what you need to do.
Open in photoshop
Change BACKGROUND layer to LAYER 1 simply by double clicking on the layer in the layers pallette
Select magic wand tool, adjust your tolerance to 32 and click in the white area.
Hit delete
Add a new layer and place this behind the the original image
open the face image
click and drag this in to the bottom layer of your first file
reposition and scale as you see fit
tad dah!

i think this white working area is set as a holding photo layer. so is not as simple as Simon's way of doing it.
you need to merge few layers first before you turn it in to transparency. if you willing to send me file i can do it for you.

Simon, the file you sent me does work but I can't replicate it here with your instructions - all I seem to be able to find with the magic wand (With the Background layer renames as LAYER and selected) are bubbles in the background.
Contigous and Anti-Alias are checked if that makes a difference?
Thanks Paul, I just dont know why I cant do it here - I have Two other images I changed a few days ago here, I didnt have a problem with those - something has happened here
I need to work out whats going on.
For some reason I can no longer select the outline of the white part to delete it !

Was determined to figure this out so I booted into Windows - I can remove the white by selecting the layer - Magic Wand at 32 and delete the white but I can't get the image (Dragged into this template and placed) to sit behind the black stroke on the same layer as the white.
I am in OS X again (Downloading Mavericks as we speak) and I can delete the white bit (Couldnt before - But I did have the Mac open for days as I didnt want to lose my work flow) - so maybe I did something wrong at some point.
BUT I can't get the image I want to sit behind the black stroke and above the background - Paul, If I send you this will you post how you did it please? this is driving me mad.
I just emailed you the file to sales@

template you send me has no "holding" layer. so you need merge few layers to be ale to remove white background.
i will show you how i do that so you can have a try ad see if you like it this way or not.
