Depends what you call cheap.....BMS supply unisub placemats.

Also depends on quantity.

Wentworth Jigsaws supply placemats but I think they only deal with bulk orders.

Just got some from Xpres having not printed in a long while. Gave up with them due to the warping issue, we discussed it on here but came up with no satisfactory conclusion.

You only have to put something heavy on them after pressing to let them cool flat. Non Unisub placemats which aren't made of hardboard don't necessarily warp but don't have the same gloss finish to them.

Went through every possible with Unisub combination of keeping weight on them and nothing helps.

Strange as even if there is a warp after cooling they can be re-pressed and flattened (opposite curves for instance with heavy weight on them does the trick). Heavy needs to be heavy though (fire extinguisher heavy).

I used to print loads of these boards. 32x23cm size (which i can't find anyone who sells this size anymore)

The boards would not flatten for me with just weights.
so, My solution was to wipe the back of the board with a wet cloth before pressing. (Do not go crazy with the water)

After you pressed the placemat put weights on it asap

Results - perfect flat placemats every time.

Hi Benn,

I came on here having just found the 32 x 23 cm mats here http://www.xpres.co.uk/p-7821-hardboard ... aspx?p=281 and was wondering if they were any good!

My issue with printing on mats has been a mottled effect on block colour. What press did you use when you had 'perfect flat placemats every time.'?

Thanks in advance :)

Charis

Sorry Benn, me again! I just had a look at your website and see you're selling mats of that size.
I tried uploading an image...but unfortunately my pdf was 2.26mb and so it didn't like it. I was just keen to see the quality of these mats as would love to start offering them to my customers again.
If there's anyway you can accept a larger file, I'd be very interested.
Thanks,
Charis
