Hello everyone, how ya diddlin'?

I'm new to this game but I've just had an interview with a company that produces personalised goods. The interview went very well but it occurred to me afterwards that if I don't get the job I could buy some equipment and go-it-alone. The more I think about this, though, the more excited I become about the prospect of starting my own creative business, so much so that I almost hope I don't get the job! Whatever happens, though, at some point I would like to do something for myself, if only as a sideline, so I'll be sticking around and getting involved with this forum.

Hi Dave271069

thanks for your welcome. I'm seriously thinking about it, but I've just effected a search on eBay for personalised mugs (this is what I intend to get into) which returned over 34,000 results. That represents some serious competition! Needless to say, my initial enthusiasm has been dampened somewhat. However, I'm stubborn, if nothing else, so I still think I'll give it a go at some point!

Welcome :)

Was you hoping ebay to be your main source of sales?

well i started at home 12 months ago, with a mug press and case of mugs, im now sitting in a room with a order for 500 t-shirts waiting to be done, mugs are for mugs, lol. you are right though it is a hard route to go, but the best bit of advice i can give you is look for a niche, something that not many others are doing. i found mine and im loving it,
goodluck with what you decide but stick at it it will be worth it.

Hi Dazzul

in a word, no. I'm absolutely new to this and I was just testing the water, spending a bit of time online and checking things out. eBay was worth investigating though, surely? Thanks for your welcome.... I think I've just seen the same plane!

Mugs are are what I intend to start with, simply because the initial outlay is relatively inexpensive. I do intend to buy a flat-press too at some point and do T-shirts as well if the mugs work out. Good luck with that 500 unit order, Dave; sounds a bit tasty!!
