As the title really, i do not "like" suppliers pages on Facebook, as i am not keen on my customers/friends etc knowing what i pay and how i make the items i make for them - fan pages for shops/ pubs cafe etc are fine, but if i like a page that shows people the phone case i charge them say £6 for is now on special for .99p (as any comment i make on the page will be shown on my page, and my "likes"

Are there other members who do not like pages for this reason, or am i just imagining issues ??

i mention this now, as BMS are moving and are putting some special deals on their Facebook page ie a one time offer of a cutter for £150 (which i don't need) but their email says the offers of items as they find them in the warehouse will be going onto their Facebook page - so if i don't "like" them i won't see the offers, but if i do "like" them then everyone i know will also know what offers are on ?

I agree with you on this one.. I only have a few pages on mine that I like.. even on my personal page.. for that exact reason

I understand that Facebook is a great outlet for these 'specials' but I do think they should be offered maybe on their newsletters etc too..

I will never like suppliers on my FB page, personal or otherwise.

If suppliers only want to do specials through FB then good luck to them and I know I may well miss out. But suppliers should be B2B and FB is not a B2B portal. I think they are totally missing the point of it and in my opinion it is poor/lazy marketing on their part.

Obviously suppliers will disagree with this and FB may well improve sales, but that is more to do with the "newness" of social media and the fact that people just do not understand social media and electronic marketing.

I have to agree on not liking the creeping trend for FB promos. FB is too wide a medium IMO and, like has been said above it 'advertises' pricing to all and sundry. Not good.

"Liking' a page only ensures you get notifications of posts, but I acknowledge the issue of pricing and source of supplies can be problematic. If it's a concern then just pop along every now and then to see what's happening by bookmarking the page instead.

As socialgirafee might expect - I may disagree on some points :). I do agree that it's easy (not lazy) communication and saves sending thousands of emails every time there's something to say. I do the same with the DSF facebook page - pop along to see what's happening by having it bookmarked.

But the DSF has nothing to sell?

I don't follow the logic that just because the DSF doesn't post much on it's Facebook page is down to it not selling anything. Social media does not have to be just about selling, it's about communication with a community.

I'd rather think, however, that the DSF does have something to 'sell' and part of that 'sell' is membership fees for the member benefits.

Communication with a community that buys your products?

The DSF will post on it's Facebook page when it has something to say, not when it has something to sell.

Anyway, this thread isn't about a forum community so we'll get it back on track.

Buying a product or using a service (the latter being more appropriate for the DSF I'd think), so yes.

Great, it's all about keeping in contact with your community.
