Afternoon everyone,

I've been interested in getting into sublimation printing for a few years now, but never found the 'kick' I needed to take the risk and get into it .... but now have & am eager to get going :biggrin:
Have ordered a silhouette cameo already this week with a range of vinyls and t-shirt vinyls, and now trying to do as much research as I can into sublimation printers & heat presses so I can have everything I need to get going with no excuses to hide behind! I've studed product design at uni and do occassional freelance graphics work, so really looking forward to being creative again and seeing what can be done

Can't wait to learn more & get started!

Hi Luke and welcome the the forum

My Cameo got me out of a tight spot y/day when my larger cutter started playing up so you should get on fine with it. Cracking software that comes with it as well

The cameo came today and was waiting for me when I got back from work, itching to go & get started already! I bought a few various heat transfer vinyls too (which came earlier this week) so am itching to go and make some t-shirts already! However I don't have a heat press so thinking I might be best waiting until I do (so I don't get disappointed with the results from using an iron) but temptation is a horrible thing

After unboxing it last night and playing with designs/ vinyl, Im hooked!
Definitely see why a heat press is needed from the start though, trying to use an iron (just on a test piece) was a mistake & didnt adhere properly - but overall happy with the outcome & cant wait to do more

Fantastic, but I don't think you'll get the right pressure & heat with a home iron

If that is your design and you have got the hang on using the Cameo already then this business is for you. A great start. Look round for a good secondhand heat press. Try your local Gumtree.com or Printer Owners or MerlinTransfers.com have good prices and service.

Hi Zipdorf, thanks It was a combined effort on a whim 'what can we make'. My girlfriend (whose account is Britannia-Orca on deviant art) said what she wanted, and I drew it up and finalised the design.

The Cameo took a while to figure out the best way to go from Adobe Illustrator to its 'Silhouette Studio' and seems a bit of a nuisance to have to un-group everything and outline text in Illustrator, then export it as a DXF and load that into Studio; but it is working which is the main thing.

Heat Press I hope to order up tomorrow (Justin your very right - even leaving the iron on for a minute at max temp and my body weight wasn't enough!); just deciding whether to go for a package with a sublimation printer or to order both bits of equipment separately and have a choice of what equipment I get
