We only use fedex for our mugs if boxed.

Am I right in thinking none of the couriers will insure ceramics in transit?

Fedex insure for me in the price paid. Quite a cheap deal as well at £5.50 + vat first box and £3.30 + vat each one after. This means I can send 72 with the 2 boxes strapped together for £5.50 + vat or 144 for £8.80 + vat.

So the mugs are insured? I know a lot allow the insurance but quibble over compensation.

Correct Justin, none of them do...
having said that I have used pretty much all of them and it seems that City Link are best for no damage. I also send out about 20 picture frames a week as well and wrap a little bit of bubble wrap around them, in fact so little wrap you can actually see the picture clearly through the wrap. I have often found that the less you wrap the better it is treated.
Viccar, if you are only sending out a couple of parcels and it is not your norm then I suggest
www.interparcel.com which will give you a range of options and prices for all the major couriers.
If you are intending to set up an account and will be spending £75+ per week then expect to pay £6-6.50 per consignment up to 20-30 kilos.

I have had insurance paid out on mugs a few times when I get enough breakages in a delivery to waste my time going through a claim. If it is just 2 or 3 mugs in 144 I don't bother. Over 95% of our orders go through without any mention of breakages.

I have used City Link, APC Overnight and both had no breakages..
Until now, always assumed no one covered ceramics.. lol

I now use Parcel Force because they are reliable & no breakages at all. Fair enough I do pay that bit more but, their service is just superb.
