On xpres paper supplied for my epson printer, they instruct the paper to go into the paper tray bright side up.
I have found this to be incorrect.
Placing it in dull side up gave a much stronger and sharper print on my mugs.

How odd.

All subli-paper is designed to be used bright side up, their instructions were perfectly correct as its the same for xpres, trupix and all other brands i'm aware of!

Coldenhove Jetcol is printed on the dull/rough side, not the smooth/shiny side. It's in a roll, so impossible to load onto the printer the wrong way. I can't see that this is the only exception.

Surely it depends on the paper feed route ... or have I missed something? Then as Pisquee pointed out your paper type.

Am I just being a bit dim?

My Ricoh fed from the bottom tray, comes out the front, bright side down. Use a rear feed tray then it becomes bright side up.

When I was referring to "bight side up" I meant the side the image is printed on, not the way it is fed into a printer as you rightly say, it will vary from tray to tray and printer to printer depending on the paper path!

Unless epsons have changed feed path then you are doing it wrong - epson white up, ricoh white down, in the feed tray. If its working the other way around you may have set your printer profiles, or printer, up wrong.

I found with Xpres paper that the look of the sides varied in different light, and so I always used the wet finger test to find the printing side.

If at first you don't succeed, read the manual.
