Who was testing the Ricoh printers with regular subli ink and not the gels inks? Can't find the thread anywhere. Were there any recent updates on how well the printer runs this way?

Thanks,

Andrew

Even if you put in artainium ink? Doesn't make sense to stop a discussion on that.

I was joking about sawgrass police - but I think someone must have objected as it was pulled.

Yup, Sawgrass Police, or one of their secret agents had the thread pulled :-(

Interesting idea though, to redo the experiment with Sawgrass Artainium ink, as this would obviously not pose any problem in terms of Sawgrass' patent claim (or their legal threats) or even just to use normal pigment inks, as the basis for the experiment was more to see if a Ricoh geljet/gel-sprinter could be used with more mainstream inkjet (non-gel) inks, whether they be sublimation, dye or pigment. As, I've often wondered how much of the claims from Ricoh (and Sawgrass) of the inks being a special unique gel like formulation were in fact just marketing spin.
I did buy two of the Ricohs and two sets of refill carts, so I could do another experiment which would not upset Sawgrass' legal dept if I used more normal Sawgrass sublimaiton ink, like Artainium.

As you said, pigment inks would serve the purpose of testing out a simple theory and stepping on anyones toes.

The thread was pulled by me, Sawgrass were initially happy for this to proceed but the author would have found themselves in hot water rt he way things were going.

A supplier also complained to Sawgrass about this thread. Just trying to save you guys any serious hassle.

I will be opening up a dialogue with Sawgrass about patent etc.

NB: Sawgrass did used to employ someone to police sales that they didn't like, on places like Ebay, but don't anymore. Apparently now relying on other people reporting problems to them instead.
