I just did a quick Google search on this and couldn't find anything substantive apart from that it's illegal to deface the Queen's head on a banknote.
My question is, "is it illegal to write words on a banknote" ?
anyone know?

Banks used to write numbers on bank notes as they counted them, but the bankers have needed arresting for years.

I think it's probably illegal to deface the image of the queen.. but as mentioned before, bankers write on banknotes..

To me - it's still a grey area?
But, why has no one ever thought about writing their website or creating a strange (curiosity) named website with a link to their own and writing this onto notes that are passed all around the country?
It must be illegal as surely it's been thought of before ??????
(and if it was done, how could it be proven that the website owner actually did the writing?)

A quick google came up with this, although im still none the wiser
Concerning notes, the Currency and Bank Notes Act 1928 says If any person prints, or stamps, or by any means impresses, on any bank note any words, letters or figures, he shall, in respect of each offence, be liable on summary conviction to a penalty not exceeding one pound.
The penalty was changed to 25 pounds in 1977 (Criminal Law Act, s.31) and to 200 pounds in 1982 (Criminal Justice Act, s.46).
You may see the text of it here, in part 12:

I used to help a friend out in his petrol station & one shift when I was cashing up during a hot summers day I found a £5 note & the Queen was wearing sunglasses.
