Hi, new to all this printing malarky, went to the focus on imaging show and was stunned by the quality of the sublimation printing. So have decided to have a bash as both me and my son do a fair bit of photography and have been looking for something better than the standard canvas. I like to do everything as cheap (but as good) as possible, so I have started with some faulty ricoh 7000 printers from Ebay to repair.

There's doing stuff on the cheap and doing stuff on the cheap - buying a good quality professional level printer that is still working, rather than a broken home/office printer would have been a good move.
Not that I'm trying to tell you off as such, just it's not a route I would recommend to newbies who may be reading this thinking they my try the same thing. It's your time/money if you want to try and resurrect the 7000.

Maybe I should have explained, firstly I have spent 30+ years repairing electronic goods as my job, including many inkjet/laser printers, so buying these printers is a fairly good punt for me. Secondly, I am only playing at this at the moment, for personal use and possibly some bits for my wifes business, so I was not about to go out and spend proper money. If I get on with it, find a use for it and decide to take it further, I will no doubt invest in some 'proper gear'. In the meantime I hope to pick the collective brains of this knowledgable forum, and hopefully contribute some of my experience to help others along.

Ah, fair enough if you know what you're doing servicing printers, and I was hoping you'd have a response along those lines.
