Has anybody had success with ovens? Better Still is anybody currently having success with ovens? Interesting the return key still doesn't work in explorer but does in chrome!

I use a halogen oven and it works fine for me (with the clamps from BMS). I tend to print batches rather than individual mugs. I manage to get slightly closer to the handle than I would with a press too (my normal image size 225 x 85mm).

I too use a halogen oven and clamps.. only issues I get are down to user error lol.. and don't have a mug press at all.

I agree can get that little bit closer to the handle with the clamps.. I have also done a couple of dog bowls with an adjustable clamp..

Thanks both, that was what I wanted to hear.

I have read a few articles now that have said about the consistency of ovens on large runs, and I have a customer who may be supplying his own items that you just can not press due to size and shape.

Are you both setting your oven at 200 degC?

Hi Janners. Ive used one as well. To have them constantly working you will need two sets of clamps. One in the oven and the other on the new set waiting to go in.
And you must cover every part of the printable area of the mug. If you leave the area under or over the handle exposed then it will brown slightly.
Worked good for me but I prefer the mug press.

Janners,

Yes 200C (calibrated with an oven thermometer). I don't get the browning Earl mentions (unless I forget to set my timer!) With a pair of decent heatproof gloves I get the clamps back in the oven about 5 minutes after taking the previous batch out. Not as good as having 2 sets of clamps though.

Hi Neil
That's interesting as a few reviews have said use an oven thermometer to check temperature. The phrase "A well known manufacturer of ovens" was running at 220c when set at 200, in an article I read about 12 months ago. I would have expected the error to be the other way!

Mine is on 200 too..

I did used to get the browning (when I forgot the oven and ended up overcooking slightly.. until it was mentioned on here about using the extention ring..) and haven't had it since :)

No thermometer here, so hoping it's right lol

so the figure would appear to be 200c.

Next question is do you do your mugs upside down?
I guess the logic is warm air rises and hence rises into the cavity.

So upside down or right side up?

Right side up for me. To be honest I think they get so bl**dy hot in there (as I know after accidentally touching my knuckle on a clamp straight out of the oven) that it doesn't matter.
Definitely use an extension ring to prevent browning.
