When printing mugs, is there a tried and tested way of placing the images in the correct position or is it a matter of trial and error? At the moment, it's more error with me. They are 11oz mugs and I am doing images front and back but I'm not happy with them as they're all 'off' to one side, which means a lot of ruined mugs. I can't afford to ruin many more so if you can advise me how to get a perfect finish please?

Make yourself a template in Corel or similar and then drop your images into that.

I use photoshop elements 6. In general, how big should the images be to look right and how far should they be from handles?

how many are you printing per A4 sheet, if you print 3 mug images per sheet spaced evenly, you will find the design should be on either side of the mug fine, providing you are putting them on the far right and far left of the paper - with only a small gap to the edge of the paper if that makes sense.

you can also see where the design is on the mug through the paper - so i cant see why the need to ruin any mugs ??

I think I'm trying to get them too close to the handle and the A4 paper didn't seem wide enough so we tried using it landscape. I'll go back to doing it portrait and get the images as close as possible to the edges.

about 19cm wide is about right for 10/11oz mugs and perfect 3 up across A4 paper. - as Mrs maggot says, keep it easy!

I centre mine by using the handle on the mug, making sure you have an even space either side the paper when wrapping round the mug, all mine have turned out.

200mm wide x 90mm high is the biggest for 11oz mugs. I find setting the image 'inside a box', printing then trimming to size (make sure you cut off the box lines or they will print) ensures the correct size. Regarding positioning you can use the 'mark 1 eyeball' but I prefer using the grid on my cutting mat to ensure the image is correctly positioned.
