DSF

Hi all i would like some advice on which printer to get for sublimation , i have been away from doing dye sub for a while and fancy getting back to it.I currently have epson d120 but because i havn`t used it for a while it has packed in i think just doesn`t want to work and the ink is low. so i`m thinking of getting a new printer and set of inks. If anyone can give me any ideas on where the best deals are for printer and ink sets?

If you are looking at something that you can turn off and leave for a few weeks without having to worry about it clogging then I recommend a Ricoh. If you are intending to use it regularly then you will also find that Epsons are pretty good.

I changed to a Richo several months ago after battling constantly with clogged heads, you will have to adjust your cooking times and remember to mirror your image yourself but otherwise cant fault it. Check out Novachrome or BMS

Social - I thought it was recommended to leave the Ricohs on (or at least on standby) so that they can run their auto head cleaning cycles while not printing?

Gonzo - have a read through the FAQ linked to in my signature below for info on different printer and ink options.

Don't leave mine on, can't see the point really as it will do the head clean when switched on again, if needed.

I'm in the same position as you as my last printer was a D120 and now getting back into it. I ditched everything and I'm going for the Epson WF 4015 with refill carts.

There is tons of discussion on the Epson v Ricoh, but in short, the Ricoh is good for infrequent use, but drains your ink in the background for the pleasure. It uses a different gel ink. The Epson has nice big carts like a built in CISS. Your ink choices have changed if you want official support from suppliers and Sawgrass.

You dont need to mirror image the powerdriver does it if you tick the mirror image box.

bought the ricoh from BMS, top service, top printer and worked straight from the box, and a total difference in the print quality to the epson, it all boils down to personal choice granted, but had 3 epsons with constantly blocked heads and poor print quality, the ricoh in my limited opinion is definately a good printer, virtually paid for itself already with the bits going through it as it is not our main business so does stand idle for a bit but cranks itself up and fires another perfect print out.....i must admit i keep waiting for a blockage but fingers crossed

I do both My 7000 is on all the time but my back up 3100 machine is turned off. I have an Outlook reminder set to every three months to turn it on and print something. Think I had to do ahead clean once to get it perfect but in general has not let me down yet.

good i hope so more blockages on that epson than a smokers arteries handy to have another i admit but every time i buy second hand or cheap it bites me on the arse, and every single time without fail i always say i am never buying second hand again then do....
