Polos......£10 gives you room to go lower on t's....higher on hoodies and still make a profit. No doubt you'll get other responses for different profit margins.

Might be a better idea to tell us this other price before members start offering help, if you have to come in below that price that will give us a guide to advise you on.

My main focus is getting a possible big contact even if margins are low to begin with.

Like NASH said are we talking about single colour flex logos or something more exotic? I think the question here is not what you should charge but how much time and profit you want to make from the 40 shirts. If you want the psychological advantage then going in just below the VAT less price at say £8.65 lets you work on £5 a shirt to cover materials and labour and hopefully give you some profit!

As NASH said, if its text only I would charge for a Single polo ( that was your question) 20 pounds inc VAT. 40 polos I would charge 12 pounds inc VAT.
Material costs ; Polo 3.65 plus VAT = 4.38. Vinyl about 2 pounds plus VAT = 2.40. = 6.78 cost, plus weeding time and pressing costs, lets say a pound for that. Roughly 8 pounds costs. At 12 pounds inc, you are making 2 pounds for yourself. VAT or no VAT , you have to declare it as extra income on your year end tax return, so roughly you will make 2 pounds a shirt.
40 pieces is not a bulk order. You need room to maneuver downwards when they ask for 100 or more pieces.
Thats the way I look at it.

If your comfortable with your price then go with it, if nothing this will be a learning curve, you can see how long it will take, what problems you might have, and how long it will take you in time, from this you will learn what you need to do to price the next job. You will far more about what suits you when you price it. If you price wrong there is always a next time when you get your next bulk order to correct it.

Thanks all,
just had a discussion with middle man (good mate). He is waiting for my quote, so I'm going in at £8.49 for a polo. He has said I should get the order and more . So far they want 40 polo,s and a few ladies t-shirts and some hoodies for the promotional staff outside the club. The guy who is ordering them has two night clubs and is an area manager for a large area too. This could be my chance to get some new contacts so I'm happy to not make a huge profit,
thanks for all your comments
