Really surprised that they are closing some shops, I feel sorry for the people that supply them, not all are big companies and Argos is know for nailing the price and sale of return. This will hurt a lot of people and business, big names are falling to the wayside, worries me a little. We do need the big names in a town or city.

Well the radio said 50 shops this morning and the news later said and reducing the number of items in its catalogue. This is not the first high street catalogue shop to hit problems - we used to have index stores and they went years ago.

Do we really need the big names?

Local independent shops are always so much better :-)

A mix of independent shops and big names for me is good they couldn't wait to jump index shoes, I think lots of shops big and small have dropped the number of items it carries, even I've done that.

The traders in my town are actively trying to revjve the local shops, with their own Traders Association working with the council, and have taken over the running of the local market square. There is a monthly craft and small business fair in the local church that is growing every month. The local council's need more help than they realise to make the towns 'breathe' again, and tempt the shoppers back from the retail parks and supermarkets…

I think the council could do more to help by have free parking maybe once a week or even fortnight. car parking fees are far to high. Or they should make out of town stores have pay to park to level the playing field

Agree with making the retail parks 'pay and display' - and there is a current lobby to make the first hour of parking free in the town centre :-).

Well in tendring if you are a resident you get free parking in all but 2 of the council car parks after 10am. the 2 excluded are beauty spot car parks.
