and i dont mean my real brother lol

was gonna go and buy another printer for pigment inks but.....
i already got a spare brother printer here using ordinary inks that came with it for day to day printing,letters, invoices when i,m open ect

question is -
can i use pigment inks in this new brother printer ?
and can in still use the pigment inks for the odd "ordinary" print job ?

I haven't used pigment inks in any of my Brother printers (yet!), but I need to buy some more inks in for my office printer so I may just try that.

I did have to flush two of my A4 Brother printers recently when changing inks. To do it, I just have the four regular refillable cartridges filled with cleaning fluid. I pop them in, print colour bands for a bunch of pages until the ink becomes transparent - then I know the cleaning fluid is coming through. Then I swap the cartridges out with the new ink and do the same until the colour comes through.

This isn't something I'd want to do too frequently with expensive ink, but if the ink is cheap enough then it's not an issue.

where to buy the cleaning fluid bud ?...what you use ?

ink is £15 incl vat for 100ml from city ink, which i though was not to bad

Is that per colour? Can you post a link to it?

I was considering this stuff: https://www.printercartridges.net/print ... cts_id=628 I know it says for Epson, but at £18 for all four colours, I thought it might be worth a try.

I did read that some Brother printers, such as the MFC-J5910DW, have a pigment black in the OEM inkset, so there should be no real trouble when using pigment inks (see: http://welcome.brother.com/my-en/produc ... 910dw.html). My printers are older, though, and the one I'll be experimenting with is my DCP-195C.

That second link looked interesting for a moment, given that it says that the ink is for Brother printers. For a moment, that is. I checked the seller's other items and he also sells 6-ink pigment ink for Brother printers that include light cyan and light magenta.

Now, I've scoured lots of Brother printers over recent months and the one common factor with Brother inkjet printers is that they all use just four inks - CMYK. None that I've found so far use the "light" inks. This suggests to me that the seller is selling the same ink for all printers, he's just changing the brand to attract a buyer - so the ink isn't specifically for Brother printers at all.

With this in mind, I think I'll stick with my first choice (as I've bought other products from them before).

the cleaning solution....is it 100ml for each ink cart i need to buy ?

I have both giant cartridges and regular size ones. The regular size ones (https://www.printercartridges.net/print ... ts_id=1284) hold 20ml each (30ml in the black), so 100ml does just fine for all four. You may need more if you only have the giant cartridges. You'll only use a fraction of the 100ml when flushing, so you'll have plenty left for next time (that's why I have four regular refill cartridges just for cleaning fluid).

I noticed the expensive City Ink ones call their pigment ink "heat transfer pigment". I don't honestly know the difference, but if you want to use the inks for heat transfers, it may be worth considering. I'm just using mine for regular office printing and photos. I may try transfers later, but it's by no means a decision-maker for me.

was thinking what justin was saying the other day re:pigment inks.
he uses the ordinary pigment inks with great success....no fancy ultrabright stuff..

i dunno...for the price £18, its worth a try i think....
off to buy the buggers and some cleaning fluid...
will keep you posted bud when they come through
