Hi, i am using a epson s22 that is using refillable ink cartridges that have been topped up with sublimation ink. I have got the sublimation paper, 11oz mugs and the mug press. I print out my mug image mirrored on the sticky sife of the sublimation then after its dried, i tape it round the mug with the heat resistant tape. My heat setting is 200 and the seconds setting is 135 secs. After removing the mug when the timer has beeped, i stand it on my windowsill to cool down. There is always a grey mark on the paper on the right hand side of the handle, near the end of the image. I dont know why this is happening but when i remove the paper from around the mug, it seems to of affected the image that has gone onto the cup and that area will either have faded colour or not been transferred onto the mug correctly. As for the other end of the image, that tends to fade out slightly on the edge. I have no idea what puts that grey mark on the one end of the image or why colours fade/dont transfer properly. The red sections tend to be very vibrant and like a neon colour which sometimes bleeds into surrounding yellow parts. I have got rid of a lot of mugs trying different things so can someone who uses this printer or something, tell me what settings my epson s22 needs to be set to or if theres certain precautions/things i need to do? Ive noticed some people leave a little white border around their image when it comes to cutting it out. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Firstly welcome to the forum

It would be great to see a photo of one of the failed mugs to give the best advice. Temp. sounds about right but you may need to up the time to nearer 180 secs. Make sure the press is nice and tight.

You're using the S22 printer so I'm guessing you have non approves Sawgrass inks? If that's the case then we can't discuss or name the inks on here. Only thing I can say is you'll need a custom made icc profile to get the inks to look anywhere near right.

Forget to mention this: If you can let me know what settings or methods I need to use/change and how I can make my own custom icc profile that would be appreciated. Theres a thing in the printer settings to save my own custom current ink setup if that helps. Thank you.

OK. Immediate problems I can see.....You're trying to print too close to the handle hence the fade out. I tend to print 200mm x 90mm on a 10oz mug. Next problem. I'm now assuming you have no profile set up as your printer settings are wrong. Colour controls should all be off and ICM selected but only if you have profile installed.

With no profile you won't get a decent reproduction...with the wrong profile it won't be much better!

I can't really see the gray mark on the photo. What make of paper are you using and whose mugs?

Head over to the Sawgrass Europe website and follow setup instructions for a different 4 colour printer. Then, you need to set up your software as well.....instruction on Sawgrass site.

You can't make your own profile unless you have the equipment. I use a ColorMunki which works very well...member Paul has a more sophisticated setup and can do them via the post for you.

Justin is right! you need to switch ICM off. then you will be able to print via ICC profile.
If you PM me with info of your inks, paper and printer model i might be able to sort you profile out

Hard to tell what the paper is im using but I got 100 sheets in a pack and the instructions that came with it said to print on the sticky side. I have to wet my finger and dab the paper slightly to find the sticky side. What is the best program to use to get my images ready? im using a really old windows 98 program lol and id prefer something that I can enter 200m x 90mm into and save it as my mug template. By the way, im using an 11oz mug and not 10oz I think..i may be wrong. But if im using 11oz do I still print out with the measurements at 200m x 90mm? And lastly, could you point me to the right direction for the sawgrass setup instructions?

The mugs are definitely 11oz mugs so will I have to print at a certain measurement? Got the mugs off ebay from a guy who sells a lot of sublimation materials. They are specifically for sublimation. Paul, I have sent u a pm

The quality of the mugs is one of the biggest factors in getting a decent print. We're always weary of eBay mug sellers unless they're a known company. Paper as well, if you don't know what make this is how can you buy it again? The profile will be specific to the paper so changing the paper can mean a new profile as well. My advice, buy some decent sublimation paper and find out more about the mug supplier.

11oz mugs you'll obviously use a larger template, trial and error will get you as close as poss. to the handle but you're still too close here I'm afraid.
