been having pain on left side of my bowel and severe runs, on/off for months now.
after various tests and various blood work done.....
been confirmed today - i got IBS and he also thinks i may have diverticulitis .
seems to be cheese/butter/heavy fried fatty foods(mc donalds ect ) seem to bring it on more......
oh and......
alcohol ffs

.....drinking ANYTHING alcoholic can bring on an attack...
For anyone who's never had IBS.....just thank god you dont.....
pain is crippling...as in, rolling about the floor, crying in agony, severe cold sweats ( passed out once with it )....and the constant runs to the loo......
this can last up to 1.5hrs before it subsides(after 3 buscopan & 4 imodiam tabs )....I HATE IT...
Now i just need to figure out the trigger foods that cause the attacks and i might get some relief from this bloody thing....
so far - as above - cheese/butter/fatty foods/anything fried / alcohol:mad:......just found out about butter tonight when i made a salad with potatoes covered in melting butter.....arghhhhhhhhhh.
we ALL have our problems in life.....and i always say, i,m not that bad...always someone worse than me and i always try and see the funny side....sh*t happens lol - my favorite saying for all things..esp this one lol

The 2 people I knew that had IBS always had chewing gum on the go. One stopped and so did the IBS. Seen a study where this was mentioned about chewing sending signals to the brain that you are eating and then producing enzymes in the gut to digest the missing food. Might not be relevant but another trigger possibly.

the trouble with this disese, if thats what you can call it - is there are so many trigger foods that can cause it/make it worse.
wierd thing is - i used to eat the odd chicken curry from the chinky take away.....one week i would be fine....2/3 weeks later i would eat the same food, 1hr later bang....rolling about in agony for the next hr or so till i had done serveral bowel movements...
whats odd is......when ever i get a flair up....it usually happens about 1hr after i have eaten.....the last 2/3 weeks, i have just finished the last bloody mouthful of food then bang...pain...unbelievable down left side of bowel.
jeez last week was the quickest yet -i go to mothers on sunday for dinner....she made lovely steak done in the oven,, tender as hell with no fat on it.....ate it, 5 mins after, the whole lot came right through me...THAT AINT FRIGGIN NATURAL......
i dont get it at all

if she used flour to thicken it, and at the moment you are really stressed, then it will have done, my hubby has suffered for 4 years now, not full blown gluten his is wheat related more than anything else, bisto best is the only gravy we can have, no butter or other fats - join a few of the web forums, for help support and new eating ideas

If you had not told me it was IBS, my initial thoughts would have been Gall Bladder. I had to have my Gall Bladder removed about 10 years ago after a series of what I can only describe as the same symptoms you are describing. Severe pain (as if having a heart attack), terrible sweats and a need to lie down. Only painkillers that worked for me were paracetamol and codeine based although at one stage they did prescribe Temgesic (sp). I was able to delay the symptoms for months by using a remedy on the net that involved fresh lemon juice (to dissolve the stone slightly), olive oil (to allow the stone to move) and pineapple juice (to stop me throwing up after drinking neat lemon juice followed by olive oil mixture).
