I've been thinking that if a lot of people's problems with using CISS are caused by bad joints/seals etc leaking ink, then has anyone found a CISS that is reliable, or done any modifications to one to make it work better. I've been wondering if I was to get one and use some kind of glue/sealant on all of the joints to prevent any possible air leaks whether it could become a reliable system.
I am wanting to swap over our PX720 to bulk inks (not sublimation) to save a bit of money on buying carts, as I have a load of bulk inks around for our bigger printers, it seems silly not to put them in the smaller printers too.

But I wouldn't want to have a load of problems with reliability, but would prefer a CISS to refill carts if possible.

Unfortunately i never had this pleasure to work with reliable ciss. And had some for £10 and some for £40. All crap after some time and caise problems.

City Ink Express are the best I've seen but none of them seen immune to problems. You can use a glue gun to seal gaps if you can find them!

I was thinking along the lines of sealing everywhere that could develop into a gap, hopefully to stop them every happening.

Must be a better way of making these?

you'd think ... looking inside our Stylus Pro when we first got them, it was obvious that the CISS thing is basically what these big proper printers have inside them - large inks tanks with tubes leading to dampers sitting on top of the print head, but is a bodge job to try and turn a home printer into more the way a pro printer works. If the idea/system can work in the big printers, then if done properly, it should work for a small printer.

Sounds like what you're looking for is a desktop printer that has its cartridges remote from the printhead (like the large format printers). So, that'd be Brother, Ricoh, and in the instance of regular ink, HP. Then you could use isn't refillable cartridges instead of a CISS.

Oddly, Epson are one of the few manufacturers that still maintain the "mount the cartridges on the printhead" philosophy for desktop printers and this then forces you into using thimble sized cartridges or a cumbersome CISS.

I've mentioned before that my office printer of choice is a Brother printer with 80-100ml cartridges slotted in the front. No need for a CISS, and on the rare occasion it needs to be refilled (which hasn't been necessary for over a year), there's no need to remove the cartridges. All the benefits of a CISS without the cumbersome tubes and bottles.

It's a pity that Epson stick to their outmoded method of ink delivery on desktop printers in the 21st century, but I guess that gives them an excuse to keep the ink prices artificially high by not putting so much ink in the cartridges.

The PX720WD does have the carts separate from the print head, but they are the same small carts as used in the 1400

Does anyone do larger refillables for them like with the Brother printers?

Or is that not possible with the way Epson have their inks mounted?
