New site coming along nicely but i still cant agree whats the best way to offer postage.
Had some views from some of the guys on here....and some views from potential customers as to what they would like
1. delivery incl in the price - (what i have now) (public preferred this option)
2. delivery by weight
3. seen this on another site below
Shipping rates are based on order value
Up to £5.00 £1.20 p&p
£5.01 - £5.70 £1.80 p&p
£5.71 - £9.50 £2.25 p&p
£9.51 - £13.50 £2.65 p&p
£13.51 - £20.00 £2.95 p&p
£20.01 - £40.00 £3.95 p&p
£40.01 - £50.00 £4.25 p&p
£50.00+ £5.00 p&p
can you guys tell me what the pros and cons are for all of these methods please...
or can you offer another solution ?

Personally I would offer the Free Delivery option, as you have said yourself that this is what the public want. If the public want it, then it is likely to mean sales will be at the optimum volume
I think a lot of people like to know where they stand when ordering something, and if postage is added at the end, then they are more likely to leave the website.

I like to know up front what the cost is, not have to wade through an ordering process to find out how much more expensive what I want is. This is the same whether I am buying for personal reasons, or for business. So, if there is a way of displaying what the postage cost is as you add stuff to the basket (like what BMS do, then this is good) or if you have a flat rate of postage, then have this displayed on every page, or somewhere prominent - so people don't have to go and find the shipping details page, or go through the whole order process to find their £5 order just doubled in cost. Being upfront about costs is the best way to go, keeping it hidden/secret til the very end is frustrating for the customer.

yep the way BMS do it is great, but have you ever taken something out of the basket you were perhaps unsure of to get the carriage down again - now thats on a wholesale site, where if i spend over a certain amount i would expect to get carraige paid. on a retail site, i agree, keep the postage simple and visible at all times, or factor in the postage on all items from the start and offer free delivery
