I'm interested in finding out whether there is any money to be made from a parked domain.
So, if anybody has a domain parked, how many pounds/pennies do they generate - if any?

Hi John,
I gave it a go on Sedo as I have a few interesting Domain Names I have collected over the years.
To be honest I was very disapointed with results!
But, at the end of the day it cost me nothing so had nothing to lose, but I believe you are also required to offer your Domain Name 'for sale'. I didn't want to sell mine so offered them for sale for a rediculous price!
Give it a go!
Phil

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the reply, would you say you covered the cost to buy the domain?.

Hi John,
In short, no! That said, I only 'parked' my domains for about 3 months. If I had parked them for 12-24 months then yes I think 'some' domains would have paid for themselves. One thing I did find was that some Domain Names certainly performed better than others.
Again, if you take 'parking' more seriously than I did there are methods of driving more traffic to your Domain Names which will result in a higher return.
Give it a go, I didn't have the time to throw at the experiment!
Good luck.
Phil

Thanks Phil,
I've a few ideas so might give it a whirl - even if it doesn't break even there's not a lot to loose.
Cheers John

Hi Paul,
Just found out myself - basically if you have domains you no longer use or need just park them for free at say reg 123 or sedo. They whack loads of adverts on them and every time someone clicks these ads you get anywhere between 1p and £4.20 (reg 123) per click. This is then paid to you in paypal when you reach £20.00 - year 2040

Not sure how much sedo pay, but the prices above are listed on reg123 domain parking site.
It all depends if your site generates natural hits, so I think if you name is searched a lot then you'll make more money than a name that never appears on a search.
Think thats how it works - go have a read, lots of info on the site.
Cheers John

But surely if you have a domain name that is popular you would be better to create your 'own' advertisement on their?
Either, set up a spreadshirt shop for FREE to sell stuff that you get commision on
or
do a little research for who is the next most popular returns and offer to 'sell' them advertising space for them?
It just seems that if all the work has been done to create the popularity of a domain then I would want something more than a few pence back.
