Hi Ladies & Gents,

Some advice needed please.

I have pressed some mugs but the main colour around the middle of the mugs ends up being stripy and the colour fades.

Details of equipment used:

• Adkins AD-1 Studio Mug Press.
• Mug Press set to 180 degrees for 160 seconds.
• 10oz Ceramic Ultra White Mugs from Xpres (XP5013).
• Xpres XP4072A A4 Sublimation Paper.
• Correct side of the paper was used.
• Ricoh GX7000 Printer.
• Powerdriver supplied from Xpres.

The photos are not brilliant, the green one I think shows the stripes better.

not 100% sure but the lines look like they off your heat press.
Have a look at your heatmat - bet u see the same pattern on there which has come across onto cup with the heat.
U may need to use a sheet between the cup and the mat.

When you say a sheet, a sheet of what exactly?

think its just normal paper - someone will answer your question - but if u do end up using a sheet i reckon u going to have to increas your heat time to compensate.

I just use a4 paper cut into strips as without it I often get the lines/pattern from my Rubber clamps imprinted on my mugs sometimes i use greaseproof paper too.

i use a teflon sheet (toaster bags split open is right size or liner sheet from aldi/tesco/morrisons)

Thanks everyone, I shall give it a go with a sheet and increase the time slightly.

Could be banding from the printer.

I would say it's just a lack of heat issue. Knock the temp up a few degrees and/or add 20 seconds. How tight is the press? Make sure it is firm pressure on the mug when shutting. The lines are basically due to the element not getting enough heat spreading into the mug. This is often shown up on flat colours like you have shown. A bit more heat through a combo of the above should help overcome this imo.

I think same as andrew. But... This ricoh and they dont need as much heat and times as normal inks. I wouls still check the presure though..
