after reading up a bit but still not understanding can anyone help

a vinyl cutter needs vinyl - correct

but ive been reading that if u use normal vinyl the letters etc is thick on the t shirt and after time starts t crack
So i reserched a bit more and it seems flexi vinyl is better (for what reason im unsure)
now what is flock vinyl ???

i throught there would only be one type of vinyl for tshirts/hoodies - so which is the best one and do they all get done the same way

design then use vinyl cutter to print it - then weed it - put on garment and heat with press

There are two main types of vinyl...Sign vinyl and garment vinyl, guessing you want garment vinyl?, there are a few different manufacturers / sellers, I personally use xpres ultracut vinyl, it is very thin and flexible, been using it years and never had a problem. Flock is a type of heat applied material also but has a felt type feeling not like normal garment vinyl which is smooth. and finally pretty much yes, they all are cut in reverse with the cutter to the shape / wording you want, unwanted parts are weeded away and then heat pressed onto the garment....That's basically it...hope it helps

I could get on my favorite hobby horse here...is it vinyl or is it flex! Vinyl is the sticky backed stuff for sticking to windows, flex is the heat applied thin material for going onto garments (and comes in different micron thickness - some is hot peal, others cool peal) and flock is a heat applied material that has a velvet feel to it. Good quality flex shouldn't crack once it's been applied and some flex can be multilayered - you can even put flock on top of flex if that appeals and we even know of some that embroider the egde of flock to give a particular look.

Flex also has different applications - some is thicker for heavy workwear, other types are for nylon based items that adhers at lower temperatures (and have different wash conditions recommeded), others are for the majority of poly/ cotton garments.

so for example - for t-shirts i would need flex and this would still be cut and designed using a vinyl cutter ?

cardman the cutter cuts it you need a design programme to design it, but yes you are correct
