I have just been reading an economy road test from 1934 which Hillman did using a 7 seater Hillman Limousine.

They drove the car from London up through England & Scotland to Edinburgh then back to London. They covered a total of 1727 miles & the cost of the fuel was just 5 Guineas (£5.25).

If you did the same journey today how much do you think it would cost you at todays pump prices?

Average 40mpg at our Diesel prices up here it would be around £300 :-)

Although I just looked at a calculator that supposedly compares money from 1935 to modern day and it told me £5 back would be worth £185 in today's money....so fuel has gone down??? lol.

Justin, a Hillman Limusine did a lot less than 40mpg & I can assure you fuel hasn't gone down since 1934.

John, there is the odd Hillman 7 Seater Limousine that still survives today.

Tony, trust me I would love to know how much it cost you to drag your caravan & 4x4 upto the highlands. You never know it might be the answer.

I've worked out the cost today using how much it cost me per litre when I filled up yesterday which was £1.29 per litre.

Keep trying folks.
