very quick way - select the part you want with magic wand or magnetic lasso thingy then invert and desaturate - bobs ya uncle.

Thanks John - that took the colour out of what I selected - do I do something in reverse if I want to leave what I select in colour and turn everything else black/white?

From what I remember (it's been a few months since I did it, and I did it with RAW files into PS CS5), if you are working in CS5 then just open in bridge to RAW (you should be able to do this whatever the file type) and fiddle around with saturation etc there. And by the way, anyone who doesn't shoot in RAW if they can - why the hell not? Just look at how much info you lose if not.
Neil.

Sorry, I said invert - it should have said inverse (select - inverse)before desaturating. Just checked it and it works fine
