Can anyone tell me the volume of liquid an El Grande mug can hold?

i thought it was 15oz ie fluid ounces is that wrong then ?? - if not what does the 15oz refer to ??

Same with the 11oz mugs and 10oz mugs. The 11oz refers to how much they weigh, not necessarily what they hold.

I always assumed it was the volume. If it's the weight, how does the 11oz polymer mug fit into the equation??

when you order a drink in a take away they are served in paper cups which are measured in fluid ounces

I assumed in the end it was fl.oz. as well but there seemed no consistency between suppliers. I reckon half of them don't know if it is weight or capacity either. I've seen bone china mugs in the Cambridge style which they still call 10oz although was quite a bit lighter.

Good point!The 'original 11oz' mug was the name the Chinese gave to their sublimation mugs once these started the flood the market post TAMS. That name is now associated with the shape of the mugs from China. The logic of 11oz v 10oz mugs would hold for volume if they held 1 fl oz less than each other. Probably some 10oz mugs that are a lot shorter in height might hold 1 fl oz less, but the names and definitions have become confused over time. Some sellers sell 11oz mugs that are 83mm diameter and 95mm tall, others at 80mm diameter and around 95mm tall. I don't think there is a proper standard!

It is confusing and probably the safest way is to measure it out into a measuring jug. I know the standard Cambridge mug is around 330ml which does bring the fl.oz to around 10/11. The Stein 15oz mug is about 465ml which from what I remember is just over 15fl.oz. I checked this some time ago and my memory isn't great so could be wrong.
