I was just looking at some items on Ebay & came across this description for a sublimated mug. I think some of the claims are just pushung the bounderies somewhat.
Each mug has a full individual photo either on front and back or full wrap around.
These mugs are extraordinary in clarity and have vibrant, beautiful colours. Each grade A ceramic mug is done with a dye-sublimation process which consists of a development to actually melt the photo design onto the mug itself. This will give it an excellent reproduction in both colour and sharpness.
All mugs are guaranteed to be dishwasher and microwave safe. They are also UV resistant and will not fade over time.
We would be glad to make or reproduce any image or design at your request.
Please note: The picture as shown in this auction, may not look as vibrant in colors and sharpness as the actual mug itself, due to a digital camera exposure.

Dye rather than melt may have been a better word, I've never felt the need to say that a mug is UV resistant! I don't think I'd want to guarantee this until I'd done longer term tests! Dye Sub ink does fade in UV conditions and UV conditions vary greatly in different parts of the world. In Shetland UV is far greater due to the much longer days in Summer (still 90% daylight now, 10pm)
Same goes for fading over a long time, difficult to prove this, also, does anyone really complain after 5 years that the mug isn't as vibrant? More than likely they'll drop it way before any of these guarantees would need to kick in!
They go to all those lengths and then can't get a decent photo? uhm

The best bit is he has 16,750 sales & yes quite a lot of negative feedbacks too. On top of that he also uses copyright images.
I'm begining to wonder if we have to produce & sell tat on Ebay to make any money. He charges £6.99 per mug but free p&p.

I agree with all you say Justin & must admit I did laugh over the 'melt' bit, obviously someone who really does understand the dye sub process eh........lol.

"They are also UV resistant and will not fade over time."
I don't suppose a character like this is actually bothered what the law says. Almost anything can be said to be UV resistant - even things that are damaged relatively quickly by UV light... If they didn't have some resistance they would be destroyed almost immediately!
Time may not fade the mug but light will. I know of NO dye or pigment that doesn't fade to some degree with exposure to various elements in the atmosphere and/or light... SO clearly the statement is misleading.
Rather than melt I might have chosen the word 'fuse'...
And rather than entrepreneur I might use the word 'chancer'

Looks to be a Limited company dealing in other items as well. You never know they might be legite as if I am right they deal in official autographs etc. Looking further into it the one I found has less than 6000 feedback so might not tbe the same as Ian........ still has loads of "questionable" designs and "same" mug description. Hmmmm?
