Does anybody know if you can get heavier canvas aprons rather than the lighter polyester ones for sublimation?

heavy cotton ones are available from most suppliers, in the "workwear section" or "barwear" section

You can't sublimate onto cotton items though, as has been said

BTC, Pencarrie etc - all the major suppliers will do them.
