Not a happy bunny.

Had DPD deliver my mugs from MDP today and when he put the boxes down i could clearly hear the sound of broken china.
In one of the boxes i had 7 useable mugs the rest all broken, cracked, chipped or just dust.

So sorry to hear that. We trialled DPD a few years ago but after three months ditched them as same issue but obviously this is about you being recipient. I'm sure we get DHL deliveries as well as dpd from mdp so wonder if you can request DHL on next order.

All couriers are the same to be honest and it's really down to the depot's involved. For example I know I can not send mugs via DPD that involves the North London depot as they always arrive damaged.

The only way to pretty much guarantee no breakages is to purchase by the pallet

I worked as a courier for Business Post and later Hermes for 11 years. Parcels were rarely lifted and carried in the depots if they could be tossed, kicked or dropped instead. I doubt whether much has changed since those days.

I don’t have room to buy in pallets or I would.
to be fair mdp are sending the replacement stock by dhl.

I have worked for both parcel force and Hermes and witnessed first hand the way parcels are handled.

At PF we were loading the trailers and we were trained to build a wall out of the bigger
Parcels and then just throw the rest over the top.

We had tumble dryers coming Down the conveyor and were told to let it drop and push it to one side.

Hermes I watched them throw parcels across the warehouse into cages and if it missed and there was a smashing sound they all cheered.

I did report this to the area manager who laughed at me.

Part of the problem (at least when I worked for them) was that the couriers used to be paid 45p for delivering a parcel. Fair enough, you might say, but if no one was in and they had to make a second, or even a third attempt, then that equated to only 15p per attempt! No extra was ever offered for successive attempts, so the couriers obviously tried to leave the parcels anywhere and everywhere.

We were often asked why it was not left with a neighbour, but in my experiences neighbours often wanted nothing to do with deliveries for someone who was never in or who they didn't get on with. It takes a kot more time to go knocking on doors just to get no answer or a refusal.

Let's say, for example, it takes 5 minutes to drive to the next location, find the parcel, scan the parcel, wait for someone to answer the door and get a signature or take a photo then you are, effectively, only delivering 12 parcels an hour, so making £5.40 an hour, out of which you have to pay fuel, insurance and vehicle tax, plus your contribution to HMRC. Not great, is it?

To add insult to injury, place like QVC used to strap multiple deliveries together for the price of a single delivery!

If you purchase 504 mugs then it’s not that much room plus it only works out at an additional 9p per mug (Neil Brothers)

Why would I pay an extra 9p more per mug and take up valuable space too?

MDP Mugs are £1.07 + VAT per mug. I assume you purchase at least 4 boxes at a time to get the free delivery.
Neil Brother mugs are 0.95 + VAT per mug. If you purchase 504 (14 cases) then delivery via pallet is £53 making the mugs £1.05 + VAT per mug

The "extra" 9p I meant was what you pay per mug to have them delivered (based on 504). They are still cheaper than MDP (by a massive 2p LOL). If you want for the lower grade (I can not tell the difference) then they would be even cheaper. That was my point albeit badly written. Most reputable suppliers will replace or credit the damages (as in the case with MDP) but I personally can not be bothered with the faff of that.

That said, if you haven't got the room then even if they were free it would not matter.
