Hi folks, being a ‘noob’ I’ve dug around past posts and although this must have been asked a hundred Times before I can’t see anything.

I’ve pressed my first coaster, unisub with no protective film at 180C for 60 seconds medium pressure

But the black has came out really faded as if the dye has not taken to the substrate fully.

so before I trial and error a load more , can anyone make a suggestion on what’s wrong ?

There’s quite a bit of ink still on the paper so I thought I hadn’t enough pressure on , but then I read that too much pressure / temp can also lead to fading.

They should be done at 180c and 85 seconds at medium pressure.

We print at a slightly higher temp, 197c but for 60 secs. Obviosuly this is dependant on your press being at the correct temp. Make sure your coasters aren't cold/damp as well.

Looking at the image have you allowed enough time for the ink to dry?

I am no expert on coasters but the "mottle" effect in your image is very common on metal when not enough time is left between printing and pressing.

Might be worth waiting half an hour before pressing...

i printed only 5-10 minutes before pressing so will definitely try holding off for a while.
also noted to store away from the cold/damp

Pre press the coasters for 10 seconds.
I used to have this exact issue because of a damp work environment.
I also add a sheet of plain paper underneath the coasters.

Press for 10s apply the design and press for full time and your good to go.
I press 190c for 60s but I find presses vary I have an old smaller press which takes a little longer.

Folks, after implementing the above suggestions on my second attempt, I now have a successfully sublimated coaster with nice and vibrant colours. Huge thanks to you all !
