Re-printing an old and damaged T-Shirt

Hello,
We have had several customers come to us asking whether we can reprint a damaged old T-Shirt of theirs. One the images I'm assuming are not In the public domain so I was wondering what the legality would be in printing it as a restoration piece perhaps?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I suspect you may be able to claim restoration if you're repairing the original item itself, however if it's re-creating/replicating the original design on a new t-shirt, I would expect (if it includes copyrighted design/logo etc) this may fall under counterfeiting.
