Juat bear in mind that this printer isn't a supported sublimation printer and you'll need to buy sublimation ink as well. Spending £200 +vat on ink with no profile for colour management can be an expensive 'trial'. The cheapest entry level supported sublimation printer is the Ricoh GXe3300 and with a full set of sublimation cartridges (and PowerDriver colour management) you will be looking at a price just over £300 inc vat and delivery. Most of the suppliers have these available.

After I posted my reply, I thought that it might have sounded a bit 'off' - I wasn't suggesting the offer by smitch6 wasn't any good just that if anyone is going to buy this then go into it with your eyes open about the issue of sublimation printing.

i just need a simple solution for mug printing - i did put an offer up for anyone willing to just print my designs and then post them to me on a4 sheets, - i have 3 events so far i need mugs for, i can then press the mugs here, but i never got a reply lol - so once finances ease a little i think i will have to take the plunge for a new printer

With the greatest respect Martin I for one have shown what can be done with the S21 & as a few already know I for one are always willing to help them with any questions etc.

I appreciate what you say about support etc & I do agree with what you say most of the time regarding this. I like to think that anyone new can start with this package & then move on up once funds allow.

alot of ppl use this printer with great results
i only changed it because of the noise (the wife complained when i was printing out and cory was on lol )

my new one also does A3+ which was something else i was looking into so took the plunge
it has served me well and gave good results

and a lot of ppl use the D88 profile i think as it was a good match
my ink didn't need a profile so i never had to worry about that

Yes I hear what you're saying Ian, but we get a good number of calls from people that have bought in cheap with something like an S21 because they've been sold a package from Ebay or the like, then spent money on sublimation inks and can't get it to work. This then ends up with the initial investment being thrown away with consequental loss of money and a printer that is supported being bought to get proper colour matching and the quality they want. It happens all to regularly and I feel for those that have to spend twice, especially when funds are tight.

I don't have a problem if people want to experiment with unsupported printers, but as a supplier I can't recommend that action because if I did, and based on that recommendation, a customer came back to us with problems then I'd end up contradicting myself and saying they should have bought the supported machines in the first place. If anyone wants to experiment then that's fine, but this isn't a route I would ever recommend for someone starting out unless they go down this route with their eyes completely open.

There are members here that have tried and suceeded with the S21 and there are members here that have tried and thrown the system away. Too often we receive calls from those that have tried and are going to be throwing it away.

Has the person with the ink/no profile actually printed a photo onto a mug and are the end results a good match, colour wise, to the original photo. Any ink can print text - its the photos you need the profile for.

Is it that the Chinese inks just don't have profiles because they haven't bothered to create one? As soon as an ink that is formulated differently to the genuine Epson inks (in terms of colour saturation per colour) is put into a printer then it has to have a colour profile. After all the colour profile is telling the printer how to use the inks so unless the inks in the printer are almost exactly the same as the Epson genuine inks then, in order to get an image produced that looks the same as the original image (or close to it), then a profile is necessary.
